Books We're Enjoying

We all know we're supposed to read to our kids. We've read the studies about all the benefits of reading to children. But sometimes, I'll admit, it can be tedious! It's so much more enjoyable when you have some good, quality reading materials. Good books are hard to come by here in Costa Rica and they have become like gold to me. For Christmas this year I received some great ones that we are loving. I'll share a few here.

The Boxcar Children This is part of our Sonlight curriculum and we read one chapter each day. It's Kai's favorite part of the school day. There is something delightful about reading a chapter book aloud with your children and anticipating a new chapter each day.

The 20th-Century Children's Book Treasury: Picture Books and Stories to Read Aloud
HarperCollins Treasury of Picture Book Classics: A Child's First Collection
These compilation books are awesome! They are full of so many of my favorite books when I was a kid and it's fun to read them again as an adult. There are also some newer selections that are adorable. The good thing with these collections is the editor has taken time to carefully select the very best stories to include. It also covers a wide age range so all 3 kids ages 2-7 can enjoy these books.

The Bee Tree This book completely surprised me. I had goosebumps at the end! It's a very sweet story.

People This book holds my children's attention for a very long time. The pictures are fascinating and lead to lots of interesting discussions about what people are like all around the world - how we are alike and how we are different.

There are more books I'd like to share, but I'll leave it at this for now. What are some of your favorites?
